Fall Season

Can you smell the changing of the night air? Do you hear the rustling of fallen leaves at your doorstep? Have you seen the harvest moon rising yet?

We’re officially a solid week into my favorite time of year: Fall. And with these autumn nights comes Halloween, Thanksgiving, and a season that invites you to drink warm cider with your friends or eat pumpkin pie with your family while putting up harvest decorations. The Fall season inspires me like no other time of year and I find myself eagerly anticipating it every year as it not only fuels my writing, it also fills me with a certain glee and exhilaration as only Halloween candy and midnight jaunts can provide.

So what’s your favorite time of year? If you enjoy the Fall as I do, what makes it such a special time for you? What are you most looking forward to this autumn?

Balancing Work and Writing

We’d love to just read and write all the time, but we’ve got to pay the bills, right? Ever feel your day job conflicting with your writing schedule? Maybe your everyday “career” couldn’t be more different from your writing career?

I typically don’t bring up work on my blog, but when it pertains to my writing I make an exception. I’ve been pretty swamped lately as I’ve changed jobs from working at Google to working at Facebook, and my Tech Writing position has gradually morphed into a Project Management type position. Needless to say, I’m trying to balance creating a new routine while still finding time to get my daily reading/writing binge satisfied.

So how do you do it? How do you get your writing done without biting the day job hand that feeds you? How do you balance everything out and still maintain a personal life?

Back from My Break

I’m back! Glad to see all of you after two weeks, did you miss me? Well, I look forward to blogging with all of you again.

I took a much needed vacation where my wife and I enjoyed the Hawaiian islands of Kauai and Maui. Needless to say, both places were awesome and super relaxing! All your favorite tropical jungle scenes from Hollywood films like Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones were filmed near where we stayed in Kauai, and Maui provided plenty of snorkeling with sea turtles. All in all, a good time.

Speaking of vacations, how do trips to places influence your writing in general? Does it spark new ideas for you or just put you in a more productive mood? Do you prefer to write on vacations or to take a break from writing while on holiday?
